Carol Gomes

Carol Gomes, the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer for Stony Brook University Hospital has transformed Stony Brook into a leading educational and healthcare powerhouse. Responsible for overseeing over 8,000 staff across four hospitals within the health system, Gomes' extensive career in healthcare and management has established her as a pivotal leader in hospital administration. Previously, Gomes held various key leadership positions, including the Chief Quality Officer and Associate Director of Neurosciences service line. Gomes earned two master's degrees from Stony Brook University: a Master’s in Management and Policy, as well as a Master’s in Healthcare Management and Administration. She also received Master and Diplomate status from the American Society for Clinical Pathology demonstrating a lifelong dedication to healthcare excellence. She is also a certified fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Certified Practitioner of Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) given through the National Association for Healthcare Quality. Gomes’ leadership at Stony Brook University Hospital emphasizes reducing barriers to care, providing high-quality outcomes, organizational efficiency, sustainability initiatives, and empowering others. She mentors students pursuing healthcare administration roles and regularly participates as a panelist at the “See You at the 'C' Suite” seminars for Future Healthcare Leaders.
